The Finnish Society of Biostatistics, in collaboration with the Finnish Statistical Society, organized an event for young researchers that took place in the city centre campus of Tampere University. The workshop is an annual opportunity for young researchers affiliated with Finnish universities to present their research and expand their network of academic contacts.
Several Finnish universities were represented in the workshop. Aalto University, Tampere University, University of Jyväskylä, University of Turku, University of Vaasa and University of Oulu all had at least one participant. Hereby, the workshop was very successful in bringing together young researchers from all around Finland.
The workshop had both a scientific part and a social part. In the scientific part, we had eight excellent presentations, with topics ranging from very applied statistics to more theoretical mathematical statistics. For some of the participants, this was the first opportunity to present their research to a scientific audience, and the workshop provided ideal circumstances for practicing giving a presentation in a safe environment. In the social part, we had some food and drinks sponsored by The Finnish Society of Biostatistics. During the informal conference dinner, researchers at the early stages of their doctoral studies had the opportunity to consult more advanced doctoral students regarding their experiences.
All in all, the event was a huge success and the tradition continues. The next meeting will be in 2020. More information regarding the forthcoming event will be posted during the Fall of 2020 to the website of the Statistical Society. All interested doctoral students, and young researchers, are strongly encouraged to attend!
